I was out West last year at the Porsche literature show (I know, I know, that's an oxymoron) and saw these people and the "toys" they made. Having just purchased an original Spyder, I had to have it. The detail, fit, and finish is like the real deal... awesome.
Mini 550 Spyder manufacturers notes:
The Porsche 550 children's Spyder is handmade in Germany. The Spyder will be built in a limited edition of 550 cars, beginning with vehicle number 5500001, and is manufactured with the approval of the Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG.
Chassis: Aluminum and special steel
Wheels/Tyres: Steel disc wheels/12,5ì x 2,25ì air-filled
Body: Hand-laminated fiberglass
Drive: 24 volt DC permanent magnet motor, worm gear, gear wheels
Batteries: 2x12 volt 15 Ah lead/gel accumulators, leak-proof, maintenance-free, rechargeable
Driving time: depends on total weight, terrain, ca. 3 hrs.
Lighting Headlights: 12 V-4 W light bulbs in series, side lights 12 V-2 W light bulbs
Brakes: Through the motor while driving, additional disc brake as a hand brake
Gears: 2 forward and 1 reverse
Speed: km/h km/h ca. 4 to a max. 8, L/W/H ca. mm 1550/670/440
Product type: Toy for children between 3 and ca. 8 years (depending on size and weight)
